Rant for a different thread - but Sunnis are totally oblivious to soft/subtle dawah or trojan horses in preaching. We are overly focused on direct defense and clarification of Sunni aqidah, and our ma3moolaat of naatkhwani, Giyarwheen Shareef, Urs, koonday etc.

A lot of times (maybe most times) these social, political, economic topics attract common people to the speaker, and consequently to his manhaj.

Devbandis and maududi guys in my area back home for example have more gatherings geared towards life in joint families, purdah, anti-dowry talks, dealing with hindu politics, gender roles in Islam etc.

Sunnis might expound on rozay ke masail before Ramadan or Qurbani ke masail before Eid Al-Adha, and so on, in mosques, but our halaqas are almost exclusively about naats, fazail of awliyaa, and direct head on defense of our aqaid wasila, istighatha etc. If at all the speaker is well qualified. If he's a duniyadar peer/rabble rouser shaykh, even those topics are empty and lacking substance.

I've yet to attend a Giyarwheen Shareef where Sayyiduna Ghawthe Aazam's rahimahullah seerah and social interactions and life is talked about, rather than karamat and fazail or in best case scenario magnificent ilmi status, once again of course it's good to mention it but practically speaking that kind of knowledge (let alone status in wilayah) is out of reach for common sinners like us to even aspire to. Seerah and social life is something people can at least aspire towards one good trait, if not all.

So yeah, firstly it is a hot topic, not because it is a hot topic, but because it has significant RELIGIOUS IMPORTANCE for us, we need more Sunnis engaging in talks on the Quds, zionism, and presenting these kind of facts of Muslim history and so on. Maybe we will unwittingly attract people to Sunniyat.

Additionally and ironically, most probably all these past governments that YQ is talking about were Sunnis, and here we have a reformist postmodern salafi cashing in on their achievements and strenghtening his own fan base. The wahabis burn in rage, for instance, if you tell them Salahuddin Ayyubi rahimahullah was an Ashari and Sufi. They can badmouth Maturidi Ottomans and yet benefit from their services to Islam (as shamelessly as the ehsan faramosh yahood) but it's not so simple for them to discount Salahuddin's services to the Quds.
