    chatgpt on reverse psychology:

Reverse psychology is a persuasion technique where you encourage someone to do the opposite of what you actually want, expecting that their natural resistance or desire for independence will lead them to choose what you wanted in the first place.

Example: Telling a stubborn person, “You probably won’t like this idea,” hoping they’ll become curious and try it anyway.

It works best on people who dislike being told what to do, but it can backfire if overused or seen as manipulative.

i might have just heard this Yasir al-Hanafi's name in passing, but don't know about him. in this piece, zameel forcefully credits him to the Barelwi account, despite the man expressly saying he's neither Barelwi nor devbandi.

    https://barelwism.wordpress.com/2026/01/13/yasir-al-hanafi-istighathah/

although as a final disclaimer, zaleel is kind enough to say at the end:

this is his new tactic - reverse psychology - wrongly accuse neutrals or non-committed or uninformed people of being Barelwis.

why? - to induce the spring action from these kind of people and hope to get them to attack Barelwis or strongly deny being Barelwis or not say anything good about Barelwis and so on.

he has now listed 3 expressly non-Barelwi people on his "Barelwism" blog directly or indirectly critiquing their positions as shades of Barelwiyat:

    Yasir al-Hanafi
    Daniel Haqiqatjou
    Haroun Kanj

    ---

apparently (per zameel) Yasir has a modernist kind of position on the establishment of takleef. if his position really is a smokes and mirrors kind of position as zameel alleges, opening doors for denying the responsibility of accepting Islam for disbelievers, thereby asserting that they will be forgiven in the hereafter, then that is indeed wrong, and in line with mark hanson and his merry bunch.

my advice to zameel - if you are honest and worry about this principle, then have the courage to lash out at mark hanson, ali jifry, abdullah bin bayyah, and that entire perennialist cabal! you have already done us all a great favor by highlighting the "blunders" of al-Haytami, ar-Razi, an-Nablusi etc. so go hard on contemporary perennialists who are more influential and popular than Yasir

so this Yasir is apparently is Barelwi because he calls Imam Ahmad Rida as "imam" and is fascinated by some of the works he's read. Allah forbid if the guy genuinely was an uninformed neutral!

other "reasons" for this yasir being Barelwi are apparently:

    - Mawlid
    - Istighathah
    - promotion of mixed-gender gatherings

    on the last one:

    dear zaleel

i kindly request you to firstly please elaborate on the "intermingling" you or Yasir allude to - dance parties, mixed gathering bepurdah weddings, public events for Muslims like a rally for Palestine, namaz in the mosques, mixed crowds in the mataf, markets, etc. - what exactly are you talking about here?

then please prove from the works of Imam Ahmad Raza where he promotes this kind of "intermingling" in violation of the rulings of Hanafi fuqahaa.

please do us all a big favor of comparing apples to apples - you must prove that Imam Ahmad Raza held the exact same position as the authors of that paper which Yasir attested to, on exactly the same kind "intermingling" gathering. don't compare apples to crows!
